The cave dwellings of Matera in the Basilicata region of southern Italy are a renowned town listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. From this very town, we now deliver directly from Italy the Kuku flute, a happiness-inviting instrument still handcrafted by artisans.

The Cucu flute, shaped like a hen and once a cherished toy for children, was believed to ward off evil spirits wandering within the home and was treasured as a decoration in the living room.

The caves of Matera, in the Basilicata region of southern Italy, are a renowned city declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. From this city, we now deliver directly from Italy the Cucu, a flute that invites happiness, still handmade by artisans.
The Cucu, a hen-shaped flute that was once a beloved toy for children, was believed to ward off evil spirits that roamed the house and was appreciated as a decorative item in the living room.
In the poor city of Matera, it was by no means a toy that all children could own.

Additionally, the Cucu, used as a household talisman against evil spirits, is traditionally presented to the bride and groom on their wedding day as a symbol of fertility.

When His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, who wishes for a peaceful world, visited Matera, he blew into a kuku made by one of Matera's kuku makers, Mr. Geppetto, and prayed for happiness. It surely seems to bring good fortune.

The base colour is as shown in the photograph, but as each piece is hand-painted, slight variations may occur and the colour of the flower on the back may differ.
